Canary Yellow Diamonds Radiate on the Emmys Red Carpet

Another Emmys event is behind us, and since we’ve already obsessed over the ensembles, hairstyles and of course, the awards, it’s time to talk about what may arguably be the highlight: the jewelry.

A-listers arrived on the Nokia Theatre red carpet in some jaw-dropping jewels this year – in fact, some of their baubles brought more attention than their gowns.

While every member of Hollywood’s elite took a different approach to accessorizing, there were definitely a few apparent themes this year, including dramatic drop earrings. One of the primary common threads, though, was colored stones – or more specifically, yellow diamonds.

Interestingly, celebrity stylist and television personality Michael O’Connor, who hosted StyleLab’s jewelry event for Primetime Emmy Award nominees, presenters and stylists, predicted that colored gemstones would be a common choice for this year’s awards show.

So which ones truly turned heads with this trend? Here are a few celebs that stole the show with their gorgeous gems.

Claire Danes

When you’re aiming to stun, you don a floor-length ruby red gown, with crimson lips to match. That’s the takeaway from Danes’ look, which was equal parts ladylike and vintage glam. The “Homeland” star was smart to accessorize with sparkly yet subtle pieces, as her Givenchy gown featured an ornate scarlet-jeweled dragonfly neckline. To complement the hue of her ensemble, Danes donned ruby marquis studs and a natural ruby ring. Then she topped it all off with a 25-carat canary yellow diamond bracelet, which offered a much-needed contrasting pop of color to her red outfit.

Lucy Liu

Amidst a sea of vibrant gowns, Liu illuminated the red carpet in a refreshing alternative: a floor-grazing sleeveless cream number with a plunging neckline. The dress featured elegant draping and hugged her curves flawlessly.

It was her jewels, though, that took things to a new level of chic. Liu sported massive canary yellow diamond earrings that weighed more than 50 carats and a 13-carat canary yellow diamond ring to match.

Julia Roberts

If there’s one thing Roberts knows how to do, it’s how to wow the crowd. That’s just what she did in an eclectic long-sleeved navy blue dress with beading and a tiered skirt, which she paired with blue peep-toe platform pumps.

Since her dress was extremely intricate, the Oscar-winning actress opted to only wear one statement piece. However, the enormous yellow diamond drop earrings were more than enough to lend a hefty dose of dazzle to her look.
