Colored Diamond Earrings – Perfectly Mismatched

A week ago we explained about the difficulties with colored diamond earrings – making a perfect pair of colored diamonds when there are hundreds of colors.
This time, we are giving you an unorthodox solution to the problem – creating a truly unique, one of a kind pair of colored diamond earrings while making the problem the solution.
Same Same but Different
The concept of mismatched diamond earrings (or unmatching diamond earrings) has been around for a while now but exactly a year ago, on May 31st 2011 it has return to the center of the stage.
That day at the HK Magnificent Jewels auction, Christies has sold mismatching colored diamond earrings by Nirav Modi for the record breaking price of a $1.38 Million Dollars.

On one of the earrings the center piece was an astounding 2.22 carat Oval Fancy Intense Blue Diamond, vs1 to that they added a 1.53ct D IF pear shaped diamond.
The other earring was the exact opposite – the center piece was a D Flawless oval diamond weighing 2.03 carat and on top there was a Fancy Intense Blue Diamond weighing 1.24 carat and vvs1 clarity.
And to top that (as if it is not enough), the 2.06ct and 1.53ct diamonds were attached with a letter by the GIA stating that they are Type IIa diamonds.
As Mentioned in Christies:
Type IIa diamonds are the most chemically pure type of diamond and often have exceptional optical transparency.”
Endless possibilities and a Personal Touch with a set of Diamond Earrings
Diamond earrings are the ultimate gift for any occasion, whether it is your anniversary, her birthday or just to say I love you.

The pair in the left image is of a Fancy Brownish Yellow Diamond that was matched with his opposite, a Fancy Dark Yellow Brown Diamond. The pair on the right is of a Fancy Light Pinkish Brown Diamond that was matched with a Fancy Brownish Yellow Diamond.
This last set deserves some special attention. The diamond you see on the right side was graded by the GIA as Fancy Dark Gray Yellowish Green Chameleon Diamond. The beautiful gem on the left was graded Fancy Yellow Orange.
Chemeleon Before and After Pair of Colored Diamonds
As you can see they make a perfect mismatching pair. However, the story of this pair has a twist to it. What makes it so unique is the fact that when the Chameleon Diamond changes its color (if heated or after a long time in the dark) it resembles the yellow orange diamond on the left. We named this set the Before and After Diamond Earrings.
Mismatching a Perfect Pair
A small note for conclusion… The basic difficulties of matching a perfect pair with the same proportions, brilliance etc. remain the same. We simply remove the aspect of matching the color from the large list of limitations.
Unless, you have a specific color combination in mind and that’s where it gets even more difficult, again
