The current owner of this diamond is a private collector who bought it from Harry Winston back in 1976, the same year USA landed a spacecraft on Mars. That and the fact that the pink color was so intense got earned this diamond the name Martian Pink Diamond.

How Rare?

Besides for the obvious fact that pink diamonds are among the rarest hues of colored diamonds, this diamond has several additional attributes making it even more rare. It is a pure pink diamond, no secondary hues such as orange or purple which you usually see in pinks, it is round and it is absolutely enormous – 12.04 carat.
