The Martian Pink Diamond Exceeds Expectations

It was the sale everybody was waiting for. Two months ago we reported that the Martian Pink Diamond, a rare round 12.04 carats Intense Pink Diamond owned by Harry Winston, is coming to the Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels auction.

While the diamond was expected to be sold for 8-10 Million Dollars, an anonymous bidder snatched it right at the start, six minutes after the auction began, for the unbelievable amount of $17.4 Million USD (over 1.44 Million Dollars per carat) proving once more that natural pink diamonds make a great investment.

Needless to say that this is no ordinary pink diamond, the Martian pink is the second largest pink diamond second only to the 23.60 carat Williamson Pink Diamond belongs to Queen Elizabeth (that will probably not get into the auction house anytime soon).
